old school

We’re seeing a huge influx of filtered tap water designs and they all do the same thing; use some sort of carbon material to filer contaminants and that nasty metallic taste. A few stand out like the 321 Water. It’s like any other bottle, holding more than the recommended daily amount of fresh water but instead waiting for your bottle to fill up via a drip system, is goes all French press style on us.

Show of hands, how many of you played hopscotch? I’m not ashamed to admit I still do much to my neighbor’s dismay because chalked up sidewalks somehow irritate people. It washes off people! To insatiate my “tech” side, designer Hye-Lim Jeon created the Dream Beam, a device that projects the all too familiar four-squares and hopscotch courts without the mess of chalk. It’s old school play done the 21st century way (hehe, it rhymes). Still, there’s something satisfying about drawing your own chalk line.

As a part of my epic shopping trip at Urban Outfitters, which I wrote about in the Damien Correll pillow post, I also found these sweet Mike Perry bandages, which come in a rad old school tin case, and features 4 different bandage designs, which I sadly did not take photos of. I never thought I’d run across hip bandages!

This weekend I took a ton of photos of random things from my life that I thought everyone might enjoy, so the next five or six posts will be kind of all over the place. To start things off really randomly, is a deodorant. When I was in Roseville for X-mas, I desperately needed some deodorant, so I decided to hit up the new Whole Foods that recently opened.

The ever prolific FAILE have taken over an old school in Kennington, South London for the next ten days to show new paintings and sculptures.

I was lucky enough to go down last night and a brilliantly curated and hung show, regardless of what you think of the work. Stars of the show were the meticulously carved ‘prayer wheels’ in the centre of the room, but the canvases are some of their most accessible to date. Worth the journey.

All details on the Lazarides site below.

Magpie are new kids on the block, set up by some talent from Hat-trick & Blast. They’ve got some lovely ideas—old school cool, just how I like it. Worth keeping an eye on for sure.

Cheers to Phil for this one.
