Los Angeles based Julian Callos is one of those artists that I really wish I could emulate. His style seems simple, with lots of human figures floating around in these abstract environments. But it’s these environments which really impress me. They seem to made up of all kinds of washes and textures and look exactly like a dream would. He’s also really great with colors, sticking with a muted palette for most parts but then using splashes of colors to catch your attention. Really beautiful stuff.

‘Battle Royal’ at Gallery 1988 SF

“Oh, The Things You Say On a Winter’s Day” is one of eight new cut paper pieces by Patrick Gannon, now in Gallery 1988 San Francisco’s “Battle Royal” group show.

“Battle royal (plural battles royal) traditionally refers to a fight involving three or more combatants that is fought until only one fighter remains standing.” Featuring the incredible and varied work of ten up-and-coming artists: Julian Callos, Anthony Clarkson, Joshua Clay, Patrick Gannon, Gene Guynn, Walt Hall, Martin Hsu, Aaron Jasinski, Marcus Schafer and Jeremy Tinder.

Thru a tangible interface, Video Remix imbues vj’ing with fluidity and natural expression that’s currently lacking. The interface comprises of a hand controller and pressure sensitive floor. The hand controller handles video clip selection and floor mixes between three channels of video based upon applied pressure. It opens up a performative style of interaction that frees vj’ing from being chained to the mouse and keyboard. Encouraging a greater diversity of performers to the media.

Movement and audience connection is the essence of performance, Video Remix brings the vj out from behind the screen and into the foreground in direct communication with the audience. With lots of movement necessary to use ‘video remix’ the physical performance is teased out while an artistic one is being created.

Stockholm Fashion Week del 1

Uka i Stockholm ble ferdig for en stund tilbake. Kampen for å overleve for det svenske underet har for lenge siden blitt spådd ned og hjem. Moteunderet som består av en blanding av kommersiell industri og kreativ kopiering i mellomprissjiktet står i hard konkurranse mot de gode gamle internasjonale merkene.

Moteuka bar preg av mindre penger, mindre festtøy og færre visninger. Rett og slett mye mer sobert. Acne valgte å stille ut plaggene sine på Millesgården blant Karl Mille sine skulpturer og Filipa K følte rett og slett at de ikke kunne ta seg råd til å vise frem noe som helst. Nye tider.

Julian Beever er en artist som har laget 3D tegninger i over 10 år. Etter det jeg kan finne på nettet er han oprinnelig fra England. Uansett har han et unikt talent som gjør han i stand til å lage illustrasjoner på gatene rundt i verden som tar pusten fra de fleste som ser de.

Jeg ble ihvertfall helt satt ut da jeg kom over dette etter tips fra en kompis. Siden hans detter helt klart inn i definisjonen som tacky, men verkene hans taler for seg selv. Forarbeidet i seg selv er nok til å bli svimmel av. Meget imponerende. Slenger med et par bilder fra siden hans. Sjekk også ut denne karen på Youtube.

Hvert år arrangerer The Observerer en tegnesierekonkurranse. I år vant Julian Hanshaw. En finfin historie, med morsomme figurer og relativt særegen strek.

I dag åpnet Gallerian Fashion Award for sjette år på rad. I regi av Beckmans lager 12 studenter 12 kolleksjoner for 12 merkevarer.

I år var det etablerte merkevarer som Whyred, H&M, Julian Red, Minimarket, og Topshop osv som ble tolket av Beckmans-studentene. Som også valgte å kjøre åpningen på Stockholms skattekontor. Det er noe med guerilla-visninger som gjør meg svært glad!
