We've just got our new set of stationery back from the printer, and are dead happy with it. It's been printed by the lovely folks over at Benwells. The business card is a matt silver foil on Kapok - a 100% recycled 500gsm kraft board from the wonderful gang at Fenner Paper - while the comp slips and letterhead are on Episode IV, another recycled stock from Fenner. (And hey - check out the blog Justin at Fenner is running - it's ace.)

We picked up this little number at the most recent Ephemera Society Fair. We've done (an admittedly cursory) google about it, but not turned up any useful info (if you can shed any light on it, drop us a line). But regardless, it's just great isn't it? I’m head over heels in love with these paintings by Jeff Rogers! I’m not really sure how you describe his work though. It’s kind of retro feeling, but still sort of contemporary at the same time?I definitely love his use of color to really emphasize his work. I’m also a sucker for giant painted words, so that’s probably a part of it as well.

The pieces side by side are hanging up in the Ace Hotel in New York and the NYC piece is digital, which kind of surprised me. The colors and composition of it is absolutely lovely though!

Mark Fleming of Rosie Lee kindly sent us some ace images of a new campaign they’ve been working on with Nike.

Mark tells us, “In May 2009, Nike relaunched their iconic Nike Sportswear T-Shirt. Rosie Lee were asked to devise a window campaign for all Nike Stores in the UK. Given the oncoming summer, and the nature of a t-shirt, we decided to create giant, playful, sports-inspired landscapes entirely out of t-shirts. We used the bright colours of within the range to make sky, grass, clouds, running tracks, even 3D ducks! Nothing escaped the Sportswear Tee. We worked with Sarah May to help realise the 3D executions, and John Ross to shoot for those spaces instore that couldn’t accommodate the 3D full landscape.”

kelly and i had a great time at the icff and got a really amazing response! the highlights were probably meeting the curator of the cooper-hewitt exhibit fashioning felt, the mcmasterpieces exhibit (an exhibit of pieces made entirely of parts and raw materials from mcmaster-carr) and our swank room at the ace hotel. Thanks to a massive effort from Andy G, we appear to have fixed the problems that the site has been suffering from. Therefore, users shouldn’t experience any internal errors as we’ve removed the shonky wordpress plugins responsible for the mishaps. However, please let us know if you do experience any problems.

Also, over Easter we’ve been sent loads of ace links and work. We’ll try and get them posted over the coming week, so if you’ve sent something in - don’t worry, we’ll get it up here shortly!

Wieden + Kennedy launch new Nokia site

Wieden + Kennedy have just launched a website for Nokia with some collaborations with some great generative artists - marius watz, univeral everything, marcus wendt, MoreSoon and SHFT.

The chaps at WK kindly dropped us a line about it and told us, “We let those guys go pretty crazy visualising the beauty of communication (some datavis, other motion) and also on the site you can play with the site and use your webcam and mic to create generative art.” Check out some ace videos of the project and some awesome artwork in Marius Watz’s Flickr stream.

Interactive Fish Tanks

Studio Tonne dropped us a line to tell us all about an ace new project that they have been working on for the NHS. Paul from the studio tells us, “[The] interactive fish tanks use web cams to place children underwater so they can play with the fish, move the around, fight with a jellyfish and feed them. The client is the Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, the tanks sit in childrens’ wards.” It’s a cracking idea. My favorites are found in ‘V is for Visual Codes’ where the records are all dedicated to the study of the Visual Narrative. In particular the ‘How To Remember Morsecode’ guide (pictured) and the Hobo Code. An ace resource via my school blog.

Middle of March see’s the third iteration of the Flatpack Film Festival run by the inspiring 7inch Cinema peeps. There's a whole host of great stuff being shown around Birmingham highlights for me have got to be:

Style Wars & Bombin' Beautiful Losers (wow been wanting to see this for ages) Points & Slashes (by the same people who designed the ace festival identity & site) It’s great to have such an inspiring event happening in the city and is a must view for anyone into (experiemental) film / music / animation.

Reverse Grafitti

St Bride Design Auction

Ah, this looks like a tasty little number. The St Bride Library is having an auction on 19 March, with half the proceeds going to the library. No word yet on what the Lots are, but with Paula Scher, AVA, True North, Magma, YCN, Hudson Bec, Spin, Studio 8, Johnson Banks and SEA all involved, it's gonna be a humdinger.
