Beware of The Decapitator!

Los Angeles based artist Eric Yahnker is a bit of an unorthodox character.
He was originally working in comedy and animation for about a decade on shows like South Park, MADtv, and Seinfeld, as well as a fist-full of animated commercials, then in August of 2004, fed up from it all, he rented a studio and started making work.
When Eric talks about the genesis, how he became frustrated to not be able to draw more, or what inspires and drives him now – from pop culture, LA, politics, all of it is just so colorful, absurd and amazing – like in a comic book, you simply can’t look away.
I most likely saw Eric’s work online the first time and it took a while for me to finally see it in person. His large format and highly detailed graphite and colored pencil drawings on paper are meant to be experienced face to face, with the layers of cynicism hitting you the hard way.
Eric was interviewed by Fecal Face back in June 2009, and his last solo exhibition over the summer, entitled Naughty Teens/Garbanzo Beans at Ambach & Rice in Seattle received quite some good press. If you are going to Miami for the art fairs this December, look for his work at NADA.
Eric Yahnker was born in Torrance, California. He received his B.F.A. in animation from the California Institute Of Arts and studied journalism at University of Southern California.

-I just literally fell in love with Scott Radke artwork,Firts i though those painting were terribly deep and 3 dimensional , then i realized that those paintings were actually pictures of little sculptures on a rich background...
The textures , lightings details expressions are just so precise and intense, those fixed but rich expression on those characters faces are almost magical.
His new work is full of dancers , slightly curved bodies wrapped up in black fabric..
Looking at his work through time is actually like a journey, you can find animals , fishes with faces ,yellow goat face or other tiny dancers all photographed in well thought background ... simply delightful pieces of art

What simplicity is this? This set of furniture, seats and tables, is made by students of the school of art and design Saint-étienne in France. What’s fun? It’s made for a new construction of the school of Arts and design of Saint-étienne in the Cité du design. In and beyond that, this is a set of seats and tables with designers in mind.
Take a look in particular at the sawhorse-looking constructs there that are made to hold the tabletops up. Imagine how versatile. Imagine how compact these tables and chairs could get. Ease in carrying, moving. Stackability and simplicity.
Now if you’ll take a moment to listen here about a design school I was at. I wont name it but you could discover it pretty easily if you try. We had “classrooms of the future” in which there were plugs and switches and projectors and curved tables and nice chairs and everything. -but they didn’t really work any better than the classrooms that had basic tables and basic chairs, outlets around the rim of the room and wireless capability. Point is – the devices we use in design school are built to be versatile in and of themselves, the furniture’s best to be as simple as what you see right here!
I think they nailed it.

The idea behind the Tree & Root Lamp is to make us aware of the fact that we are cutting down way too many trees. So how does Kitae Pak translate this into motion? When positioned inverted in the pot, the lamp signifies a dead root, with the tree cut-off. Upright the lamp and it illuminates the room, depicting the true virtues of a tree and its importance in our lives. Besides the poetic garble, I simply think it’s an elegant design that can find pride in many homes.

Yep, I wasn’t lyin’. Shoes made of bread. You think I could make this stuff up!?

Studio Von Birken’s work has already been written about on many blogs and I try not to write about work that’s been mentioned everywhere, but their work is too good to ignore. SvB is a New York based boutique studio founded by Katia Küthe & Philipp Müssigmann and their work is excellent. See for yourself.
